Navigating the 30-Day Deadline for Your ABC Alcohol Server Certification Exam

Completing your RBS training is a significant step, but the clock to complete your exam starts ticking once your training is confirmed. If you’re preparing to complete the ABC Alcohol Server Certification Exam as part of your Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification in California, it’s essential to become aware of the time constraints involved.

Understanding the 30-Day Window

  1. The 30-Day Requirement
  • After your RBS training is confirmed in your ABC Portal, you have 30 days to pass the exam. This time frame ensures your training knowledge remains relevant and fresh on your mind.
  • Confirmed Training: Your training must be confirmed by your provider. This will be communicated via email and on your RBS Portal dashboard.
  • Exam Access: Once your training is confirmed, you can take your exam.
  • You have three attempts to pass the exam at 70% or higher before you have to retrain.

  1. What Happens If You Don’t Pass Within 30 Days?
  • Retake Training: You must complete a new training course or retake the previous course to ensure current knowledge.
  • $3 Exam Fee: A $3 fee is required for each subsequent exam attempt after the initial attempts.

Retake Process and Additional Attempts

1. New Training Course

  • Select a Training Provider: You can choose to take a new training course from the same provider or look for a different one. Make sure that the training provider is authorized by ABC. You could find approved training providers by looking in the ABC server login portal under training provider.
  • Reconfirm Training: The new training will be confirmed upon completion, and you’ll have a fresh 30-day window to pass the exam. Remember that the training provider has 24 hours to confirm your training confirmation.

2. Additional Exam Attempts

  • Three Additional Attempts: After completing the new training, you will be given three attempts to pass the exam with a minimum score of 70% within the new 30-day period.
  • Exam Preparation: Utilize additional training and materials provided by your training provider to review and solidify your knowledge. Practice and preparation can improve your chances of passing the exam on your next attempt.
