For anyone involved in the sale and service of alcohol in California, obtaining the proper certification through the Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) program is essential. Whether you’re an alcohol server or manager, registering for RBS certification ensures that you comply with state regulations and are well-prepared for responsible beverage service.

  • You’ll need to select your role when registering. Choose the Server role if you are involved in serving alcohol. If you are a manager that has control of the license (ie, pays the license renewal and manages the license with the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC)) select License Administrator. Managers who do not directly oversee the license can be added as License Administrator Designees. For more info click here.
  • The correct selection helps tailor the training and certification requirements to fit your specific responsibilities.
  • Pay the $3.00 Registration Fee:
  • A non-refundable fee of $3 is required to complete any registration in the RBS Portal. This fee covers the costs associated with processing your application and access to the RBS training program.
  • Be sure to complete this payment to finalize your registration and obtain your Server ID number, which is needed to start an approved training course.

You can also watch the ABC’s video explaining the steps here.
