Step 1: Visual Inspection 

Start with the card itself:

• Match the photo to the person: Do the facial features, hair, and overall appearance line up with the ID photo?
  
• Check the ID’s condition: Be wary of signs of tampering, like lifted or altered photos, strange textures, or cards that feel too thin or thick.
  
• Look for security features: Tilt the ID under light to spot holograms or other elements that shimmer and move; these are tough to fake.
