How to Renew Your California RBS Certification

Renewals are here! If your Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification is nearing expiration, here’s everything you need to know to ensure a smooth renewal process.

Step 1: Check Your Expiration Date

Log in to your ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) portal and locate your RBS certification expiration date. While the ABC will send you an email notification when your certification is approaching expiration, it’s best to check early so you can plan ahead for re-training.

Step 2: Know the Renewal Window

You cannot renew your certification unless you are within 90 days of its expiration. Training providers are not able to unlock the exam before you enter this renewal window, so be sure to check your dates carefully.

Step 3: Pay for the Exam

Once you are within the renewal window, visit the ABC portal and pay the $3 exam fee to access the test.

Step 4: Complete Your Training

Enroll with an approved training provider and successfully complete the RBS training course. This step ensures you’re up to date with the latest regulations and best practices in responsible alcohol service.

Step 5: Take the ABC Exam

After completing your training, log back into your ABC account to take the final RBS certification exam.

Step 6: Pass & Get Certified

Once you pass the exam, your RBS certification will be renewed for another three years.
